A Tale of Tarts

Our story began when a young girl named Lisa would accompany her mother, Elena, on visits to their elderly Scottish neighbor, Mrs. Mcintosh.

During those visits, Mrs. Mcintosh would welcome them with the most magical homemade tarts. As Mrs. Mcintosh grew older and more frail, Elena and Lisa lovingly looked after her. Before she passed away, she entrusted them with her most treasured possession: her secret tart recipe. With one condition—that it be protected and cherished. Elena promised to honor both the recipe and the love behind it.

For the rest of her life, Elena became known throughout town for her tarts. She brought them to the post office, doctor’s offices, neighbors, friends, and wherever her travels took her. People came to know and love Elena not only for her kindness, but for the delicious tarts she generously shared. Though many asked for the recipe, she faithfully kept her promise, preserving the tradition exactly as Mrs. Mcintosh had entrusted it to her.

Along the way, Lisa fell in love with baking beside her mother. Together they carried on the tradition for decades, filling kitchens and hearts with the warmth of freshly baked tarts. When Elena passed away at the remarkable age of 99, she left behind far more than a recipe—she left behind a legacy of generosity, community, and joy.

To help bring that vision to life, Lisa's son Josh and his wife Kelley designed and built a custom Tart Cart—a mobile bakery that reflects the craftsmanship, family tradition, and whimsical spirit at the heart of their family and Queen of Tarts.
